The Rev. Jeffrey S. Spencer is an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, currently serving as Pastor and Teacher at Niles Discovery Church, UCC/DOC, in Fremont, California. He is a certified “Specialist in Church Education” and a trained Spiritual Director.
Jeff grew up in Massachusetts, attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota where he earned a BA in mathematics and theatre and became a licensed secondary education teacher in the state. He attended Pacific School of Religion and earned a M.Div. He has served as a juvenile detention chaplain in California and churches in Washington state prior to moving to Fremont.
Although Jeff is opposed to the death penalty, he has written this curriculum so that opponents, proponents, and the undecided can listen to each other and grow from the experience. It is designed for use in Christian congregations, though creative teachers will be able to adapt it for use in other faith traditions.
